Audience: Primarily the Jewish people in exile in Babylon
Probable Date: around 530 or 520 BC
The book of Daniel seems to come in two parts (chs 1-6 and 7-12). The first half contains narrative mostly about Daniel and his three friends who remain absolutely loyal to Yahweh (the God of Israel), even while rising to positions of importance within the Babylonian Empire. The second half is a series of visions about the rise and fall of succeeding empires.
